Funding is now available for farmers in the Riverina Highlands to undertake works to control erosion whilst improving groundcover and grazing management.
The aim of the project is to work with a number of landholders to assist them to address soil erosion issues and the impacts these gullies have through depositing vast amounts of sediment into waterways within the Riverina Highlands.
“Stabilising these gullies will not only reduced sedimentation but will also restore native vegetation, provide improvements to stock and grazing management and increase groundcover” said Nick Austin, Chair of Riverina Highlands Landcare Network.
Through funding sourced from the Riverina Local Land Services, up to $8,000 (GST excl) per property is available for:
- Fencing—materials towards a stock proof fence.
- Alternative Stock Water supply—if required.
- Site Preparation for tree planting
- Revegetation—cost of locally native tubestock and tree guards (if required).
“As limited funds are available, landholders wishing to be involved in this project will need to submit an Expression of Interest before the 30th September 2015 with on grounds works to be completed by the 30th June 2016” said Nick.
